Li Xianglan

A story about a remarkable and beautiful woman, born in Manchuria during the 1920's, who would later escape death due to her hidden identity (Chinese-Japanese)  A singer, movie star, Tv hostess-reporter, member of Japan Parliament and world traveler and now serves as a Vice-President of the Asian Women’s Fund. .  Nearly executed for treason in China during WWII, later to become famous in American cinema and on Broadway.  What a fascinating woman.   I knew nothing about Li Xianglan until yesterday, when I stumbled upon her while searching for interesting topics with a China flavor. At times it was difficult (for me) to decide if the material I had found was actually about the person Li Xianglan - she has used all of these names at some point during her long and illustrious life: Li Hsiang-lan, Ri Koran, Li Xiang Lan, Hsiang-lan Li, Xianglan Li, Li Xianglan and Yoshiko Yamaguchi. The names she used at different times during her career are secondary to her beauty, talent and intellect.  A  woman for the world, a personality for the ages - Li Xianglan! Her story: Yoshiko Ōtaka (大鷹 淑子, Ōtaka Yoshiko?), (English Name: Shirley Yamaguchi) born February 12, 1920 is a China-born Japanese actress and singer who made a career in China, Japan, Hong Kong, and the United States. By the 1940s, she became one of the Seven great singing stars. She was elected as a member of parliament in Japanese Government in 1970's and served for 18 years. WIKI Looking Back on My Days as Ri Koran (Li Xianglan) An interview with Li Xianglan By Koran Ri Otaka Yoshiko interviewed by Tanaka Hiroshi, Utsumi Aiko and Onuma Yasuaki   Otaka Yoshiko was born Yamaguchi Yoshiko in Manchuria in 1920. After joining the Manchurian Film Association in 1938, she starred in films as a Chinese actress under the name of Li Xianglan (Ri Koran in Japanese). Arrested as a spy by the Chinese Nationalists following Japan 's surrender, she was arraigned before a war crimes tribunal and acquitted. Following her release, she was active as an actress and singer in Japan and then in the United States . She subsequently served as a television host and journalist covering Vietnam and the Middle East . She served in the upper house of the Diet between 1974 and 1992. This is one in a series of Japanese Lives. Q. In the autobiography Ri Koran -- My Life (Yamaguchi Yoshiko with Fujiwara Sakuya), I was particularly struck by your learning Mandarin as a girl, and by the figure of your father, who tutored you. He taught Chinese, and associated with Chinese people as an equal. That point of view differentiated him from most Japanese at the time. It's clear that his approach -- learning the language completely and respecting the culture of the host country -- was passed down to you as his daughter.   Otaka From the time that I was 3 or 4, my father (Yamaguchi Fumio) taught Chinese to employees of Mantetsu (The South Manchurian Railroad). He had been attracted to China in his youth, had gone to Beijing to study, and put immense effort into learning Chinese. When I was in kindergarten, he taught me Chinese pronunciation one-on-one. When I started elementary school, he had me attend the Chinese night class he taught at Mantetsu; I was the only child in a class of adults. I went to a Japanese girls' school until the second grade, then transferred to a Chinese girls' school.             My father had a lot of close friends among Chinese who were sympathetic to the Japanese, and the reason that I have the names "Li Xianglan" and "Pan Shuhua" is that he made a pact as blood brothers with one of his Chinese friends and had me adopted according to Chinese customs. That's the origin of my stage name, Li Xianglan (Ri Koran). They were married in Japan in May 1952 (From Noguchi org.) Yoshiko (Shirley) Yamaguchi (born 1920), is a noted Japanese film star, television reporter and politician. Yamaguchi’s parents were Japanese, but she was born and raised in Manchuria. After the Japanese invasion of Manchuria she adopted a Chinese name, Li Xianglan (in Japanese, Ri Ko Ran), and appeared in propaganda films and other movies produced by the Japanese for Chinese audiences. At the end of World War II she avoided execution for treason in China by revealing her Japanese identity, and then established a career as Shirley Yamaguchi in Hollywood and on Broadway. She went through radical changes as she assumed new names, new locations and new professions. As Lixiang Lang (fragrant orchid) she sung like Judy Garland. I just found out that my favorite filmmaker Kore eda is working on a bio-pic of Li Xianglan. (via Jason Gray) Born in turbulent times, Li Xianglan lived a complex, controversial life in which everyone seemed to have experienced multiple identities. “What was that war all about?” remains the fundamental question. For me, “Li Xianglan” often reminds me of my father and my mother, living in their memories that are an integral part of their personal history. タイトルの通りです。
期待してたけれど同人フリーを思わせる出来に萎え萎え。
元が携帯ってのもあるのかなぁと。。。
同人フリーでもこのぐらいの出来のはいくらでもあると思う。
携帯版の元のを知らないが、単純に移植しただけの感があり
全くやる気を感じなかった。
